Cultivating Insight & Expanding Consciousness

“The healers I met explained that healing occurs within the social context of the community, and felt that when a person was sick, the entire community was afflicted.” -- Alberto Villoldo, A., & Krippner, S. (1987). Healing states: A journey into the world of spiritual healing and shamanism.

For me this singular statement reflects the urgent need for deeper understanding of the true nature of “dis-ease” in western society, as well as for great hope that we can come together and restore “ease,” balances.

Again an underlying concept is the circular nature of effects. When examining the concept if illness in these terms, one could say that what affects society affect the individual and reciprocally what the individual experiences society does as well. Taken a step further this same concept would apply to nature. Again, from my perspective of “Mitakuye Oyasin” everything is truly related, maybe more to the point everything is also interrelated. The butterfly effect, or ripples in a pond ever extending outward.

Our illnesses, cancer, diabetes, obesity are all symptoms of our societal ills and our Earth Mother’s as well, interrelated in a spiraling symbiosis. When we come to a place of understanding and actually begin to “get it” just think how powerful that medicine will be, everything healing at once, creating a deepening spiral of energetic good. I heard once that a shaman noted that speaking negative thoughts is indeed promoting negative energy but that on a deeper level, the mere action of creating the negative thought sends out negative energy that cannot be reclaimed. It becomes creation itself energy placed into the environment, the universe…

So yes, our Earth Mother is ill, our society is plagued by countless maladies and as individuals we are inundated with countless states of “dis-ease.” The simple act of shifting our perspective, will afford us the opportunity to change the paradigm to one of hope, balance and “ease.” Could this simple concept be the miraculous change we have searched for throughout the ages? I think yes, in a wonderful natural, spiraling symbiotic manner.
